ETU-SL’s Dr. Babawo Named Acting Chairman of TEC

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Sao Babawo was appointed Acting Chairman of the Tertiary Education Commission on 7 August 2026, following the resignation of Professor Algali.

Dr. Babawo, who also serves as Eastern Region Commissioner for the Tertiary Education Commission, has been a key figure in ETUSL’s academic leadership. His appointment to the national body reflects the growing influence of the university in Sierra Leone’s higher education governance.

The Tertiary Education Commission oversees the regulation, accreditation, and quality assurance of all tertiary institutions in Sierra Leone. Dr. Babawo’s dual role positions him to advocate for technical university priorities at the national level while maintaining his responsibilities at ETUSL.
