Professor Joe A.D. Alie Installed as Chancellor

Historian and Fourah Bay College professor Joe A.D. Alie was installed as ETU-SL’s third Chancellor on 4 July 2026, following appointment by President Julius Maada Bio.

Professor Alie, a Commander of the Order of the Rokel (COR, 2006) and author of A New History of Sierra Leone, was appointed on 8 June 2026 for a three-year term under Section 7(1) of the Universities Act, 2021. The installation ceremony at the Kenema main campus brought together government officials, academic leaders, and traditional dignitaries.

Professor Alie succeeds Professor Joseph Aruna Lawrence Kamara, who served as Chancellor from April 2025. His appointment reflects the continued strengthening of ETUSL’s institutional leadership as the university enters its next phase of development.
